The DIY Christmas Gift Guide, Totally Inspired By My Favourite Pins!
Christmas can be a little over the top when it comes to the amount of cashola you’re expected to dish out for gifts, which makes it really hard if you have quite a few to buy for! But what is even harder, I find, is getting the Kris Kringle or budgeted group gifts that are that awkward, in between super cheap (to the point where you can buy someone a whoopee cushion and its acceptable and funny) and expensive gifts – you know those $20-$50 budgets that you feel like you need to blow out on to get something decent?!
Well, in my opinion this is the way to go about it - I personally love the idea of creating something that people will actually utilise and appreciate and DIY projects are a great way to do so, even if they don’t really want/need it or love it as much as you do, they will be guilted in to loving it anyway because you spent your precious time thinking, planning, preparing and creating this masterpiece just for them! It’s genius!
So I totally cheated when it came down to actually DIYing my own DIY suggestions.. butttt lets face it this time of the year is nuts and I simply couldn’t fit it all in – So, my faithful inspiration purveyor, Pinterest, has supplied all of the images and links for you to check out. You can Pin these straight from the links!
FIY - Many of the utensils and materials needed to create these little gifts can be sourced locally from craft and hardware stores, chemists and florists! I have happily shared these ideas with you, and your gift to me in return would be to source as many of your materials locally as possible!
Thanks in advance! and happy DIYing you creative mastermind you ;)

#1 Mood Boosting room sprays
These are such a great, long lasting thing to keep on hand in the house! I love using things like this after having done a bit of cleaning to finish it off with a beautiful fresh, invigorating scent to fulfil the room, or even before bed at night to help you wind down. Plus they look super perrty and you can customise the swing tags for each person you're gifting them to!
#2 Splatter Painted Pinch Pots
These are cute as! You can get creative and have fun with colours (try to choose colours that suit the receiver of the gift!), go crazy with splattering and make some for yourself while you're at it! everyone loves pinch pots, whether they actually use them to put things in or just have them as a display, you can be certain they will be utilised some how.
#3 Herb Garden Starter Kit
A lot of people love the idea of starting their own herb garden, but it's one of those things that's always written on the 'I should do that one day when I have spare time' list, but never actually happens! Well, this leaves them with no excuse to pop it in to the too hard basket - their beautifully displayed and decorated little starter package is right there for them, with everything they need to get stuck in to it!
#4 Grapefruit And Rosemary Bath Salts
Not only do these just look beautiful displayed on the bath table, they are actually such a treat to bathe in to help wind down and relax. Make these using Epsom Salts and you have a beautifully scented and detoxifying mix to completely immerce yourself in on a Friday night after having had a longgg week - now that's a great gift to give someone who has a hectic day to day routine!
#5 toffee blondies in a jar
Have friends/family members that love baking?! Cookie, blondie or brownie mix in a jar is super easy - pop the dry ingredients in the correct quantities in the jar, write down the method on a piece of paper, fold it and pop it in a mini envelope to tie around the outside of the jar and they're set! they just need to add a couple extra ingredients, throw it all in to a mixing bowl and they're ready to get baking!
You can pop anything in these popular, re-usable jars! Kids will love colourful cookie mix, adults will love a cheeky mini bottle of Baileys tied to the side to splash in to a brownie mix! Pretty it up by creating nice even layers with each ingredient and get in to the Christmas spirit by decorating the outside of the jars with red and green ribbon or use pipe cleaners and goggle eyes to create a reindeer face if it is for the young ones!
#6 Caramelised Onion Jam + texas style Meat Rub
Finding mini gifts for blokes can be tricky! Most creative little DIY gifts appeal more to females and there are only so many years in a row you can by them a new bottle of aftershave or alcohol!
So here's my solution.. If there's one thing that pretty much all blokes have in common, it's their love for food - meat especially! So a great little gift to give to someone you are bit stuck on ideas for is meat rubs and chutneys/jams/relishes/sauces to accompany their favourite meal. I personally love this kind of stuff to add to my barbecued meats as well- so it's definitely not limited to men, but it is one I think men especially will appreciate!
If you don't mind doing a bit of cooking yourself, it's super cost effective to make a big batch of a few variations of Jams and Meat Rubs to separate in to mini jars and package them together with Christmas themed ribbon or pop in to gift boxes to give to a few of the food lovers in your life!
There are sooo many easy recipes out there - but here are a couple to get you started!
#7 Photo Wall Hanging
Everyone loves reminiscing about the most exciting happenings in each chapter of their lives. Although, like me, a lot of people tend to become slack when it comes to actually doing something with the best reminder we have of those exciting, memorable times - our photos! So if you can get your hands on some great photos from one of your fiends or loved ones that you think they would love to have displayed on their walls at home as a nice, sentimental reminder of the past, do it! and to create something decorative and trendy with it - here is a really cool idea to do yourself that is customisable to their home style!
#8 Floating shelf
This is a really quick and easy process as you can source the materials easily and cost effectively! Whip a few up to gift to anyone for their living space, bedroom, bathroom, office or outdoor area.
Having a bit of greenery hanging in a room really softens the colour pallet and creates a nice homely feel, no matter what the interior style is. Succulents are really trendy at the moment too and super easy to source for a reasonable price (and they're easy to keep alive as they're low maintenance!) - pot them up in some cute, decorative little bowls/jars and pop them in a gift box with the ready to hang shelf and you have a perfect little gift package to cater for a wide age bracket!
